Schooners Cove is in downtown Cannon Beach, a short walk from the beaches, galleries, restaurants, and shops that make this stretch of the Oregon coast worth the trip. You won’t need a car to reach most of what Cannon Beach has to offer.
Walk to the Beach and Haystack Rock
The beach is steps from your door. Haystack Rock, the 235-foot sea stack that rises from the shoreline, is a short walk down the sand. At low tide, the tide pools at its base hold sea stars, anemones, and hermit crabs. Volunteers from the Haystack Rock Awareness Program are on the beach most days during the season to answer questions and point out what’s in the pools.
Art Galleries
Cannon Beach has been an artist’s town for decades. Hemlock Street, the main street running through downtown, is lined with galleries showing paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and photography from Pacific Northwest artists. The White Bird Gallery has been part of the scene since 1971. The Cannon Beach Arts Association hosts rotating exhibitions and events throughout the year.
Shopping
The boutiques along Hemlock Street carry things you won’t find in a mall: locally made goods, handcrafted art, coastal-themed housewares, and clothing suited to the Oregon coast. It’s the kind of shopping where you tend to spend more time than you planned.

Dining
Downtown Cannon Beach has a full range of dining within walking distance, from a relaxed breakfast to seafood dinners. Mo’s and the Driftwood Restaurant are local institutions. Pelican Brewing’s Cannon Beach location anchors the south end of town. Most of the restaurants here are independent, and fresh Oregon seafood runs through nearly every menu.
Sweets, Coffee, and Local Treats
The Cannon Beach Bakery is a tradition that guests come back to every trip. Bruce’s Candy Kitchen is a Cannon Beach fixture, one of two candy stores in town. There’s also a chocolate shop, a new s’mores place, and a crepe shop. Coffee shops are plentiful throughout downtown, so you’re rarely far from a good cup.

Live Performances
The Coaster Theatre Playhouse runs productions year-round, with drama, comedy, and musicals, and has been part of Cannon Beach since 1971. An easy evening out without getting in a car.

Annual Events
The Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest, held each June, brings teams from across the region to build elaborate sculptures on the beach. The Stormy Weather Arts Festival in November fills the town with music, gallery events, and art demonstrations. Both happen right outside your door when you stay at Schooners Cove.
Everything Within Walking Distance
Schooners Cove’s downtown location means the beach, the galleries, the restaurants, and the events are all a short walk away. It’s one of the things guests mention most.
